This journal is a publication of the Edo state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association. The inaugural issue was published in July 2016, when Prof Afekhide Ernest Omoti was Chairman of the association. Currently, two issues are published yearly with the hope of progressing to four issues yearly. The idea of the journal was first approved by the Annual General Meeting of Edo NMA in 2011 when Dr Philip Ugbodagha was Chairman and it was his brainchild. With the successful amendments to the Edo State NMA Rules and Regulations in the Annual General Meeting of July 2016 under the Chairmanship of Prof Afekhide Ernest Omoti, the legal framework for the take-off of the journal was established. The journal initially shared the same website as the association but under the chairmanship of Dr Emmanuel Osaigbovo, this new website solely for the journal has come into existence. With our own website containing full publications of the journal articles in an open access format (hard copies of the journal are also published), we offer our authors worldwide visibility of their work. The option of online submission and review process is now possible.
The aim of this journal is to promote the culture of research and publication primarily among medical doctors in Edo State of Nigeria, but also advance research among doctors and health scientists in the tropics and worldwide. The vision we have for this new journal of the Edo NMA which we have titled, “Annals of Medical and Surgical Practice” is to become a leading scientific peer-reviewed journal in Africa and in the world, publishing ground breaking innovations and discoveries that will positively advance the field of health care. The journal will become visible internationally and the editorial board will work to get it indexed in the earliest possible time.
